What these numbers mean for a pole barn design
Snow: 20 psf on the ground, engineered on the roof
The ground figure converts to a roof design load through exposure, slope, and thermal factors — and where plans are reviewed, they'll need to state those values. Truss packages for this area are specified against this math; a truss quoted for a lighter-load region isn't a bargain, it's a liability.
Wind: 115 mph, and uplift is the enforcement point
Wind doesn't just push on walls — it lifts roofs. Springfield's code specifically requires ties, tiedowns, anchors, or screws manufactured to resist uplift on roof assemblies.
